We are you, your neighbors, and your community. We are the local volunteers who are building and maintaining the Flint Hills Nature Trail. Each local community along the trail has a volunteer "Division", which is part of the non-profit Kanza Rail Trails Conservancy. These Divisions are developing the trail and extending it. Eventually they will link up with the volunteer divisions who are working toward them. This allows all communities an opportunity to get involved and to enjoy what they have built. It also allows the economic benefits of visitors to the community in many places simultaneously, rather than having to wait for development to arrive later. Each Division has meetings where plan are made and discussed. Each division has representatives of the Board of Directors of the Kanza Rail Trails Conservancy. The local Division is made up of folks from that community.

The Kanza Rail Trails Conservancy is a non-profit 501(c)3 which is made up of volunteers. The organizations mission is to convert out-of-service rail corridors to public-use non-motorized trails with wildlife areas. This is a federal purpose which is authorized by a federal program and has shown itself over the last 25 years as being immensly popular and successful across America. The volunteers of the KRTC recognize that the trails we are developing are extremely important in todays society. They provide vital places for people to get healthful exercise and relaxation, provide greenspace and wildlife habitat, help control run-off and erosion, provide vital economic boosts in the small towns which they go through by attracting visitors, and provide a non-polluting transportation corridor. The KRTC meets regularly and has an annual meeting where board members are elected from the general membership. The KRTC is supported by annual membership dues, grants, donations, and gifts of supplies and services. You make up the KRTC.
