See what all the excitement is about, on the longest trail in Kansas.
The Flint Hills Nature Trail is a 117 mile rail-trail in northeast Kansas. It crosses 7 counties along its east-west course. As the name implies, it crosses the beautiful Flint Hills. This area is one of the last remaining tallgrass prairie ecosystems in the world. It is home to abundant prairie wildlife species, spectacular views, national historic sites, recreational areas, and good home folks. It is also recognized as a region of cultural importance.
This is it! This is your invitation to come see the sites, feel the prairie breezes, listen to the native tallgrass as it sways, smell the fragrance of a fresh rain, and travel without the confines and clutter of a car. This is your chance to journey with the bobwhite quail as your companion.
The Flint Hills Nature Trail is your pathway to a beautiful world which few people experience. Come join us and see what it has for you.

The February 2010 survey by the Rails To Trails Conservancy in Washington, D.C. reports the Flint Hills to be number 6 in the nation. This illustrates what an important project this is.
